Baby, oh baby!

Tonight I went to a workshop about delivery of babies and suturing post-delivery. I am curious if any of you mothers out there have had a doctor use a vacuum extractor to pull out your baby. They told us that babies get a bruise on their heads from it, which would make sense. One of my classmates used the vacuum on my leg (he wanted to do it on my neck to make it look like a giant hickey, but I declined the offer). I have to admit, the more I learn about pregnancy, labor, and delivery, the more I am scared to ever have kids! Women with kids are tough. And, how do all of these kids come out so normal and cute? All in all, it was a fun workshop, but it was definitely a little eye opening.

Our species had no problems surviving eons without OBs. We'll continue to do fine…

Our daughter needed the vacuum to come out. It took her a long time to come out, and after pushing for 3+ hours, we decided that we would let the doctor try the vacuum. As for the bruise, she had a red ring on her head and was a little more peaked on her head than most babies are (I think), but the discoloration went away really quickly and her head shape is great now. But the vacuum didn't look like the one in the picture, and James said it was really interesting to watch her use. But I am sure thankful for the vacuum and the help that it was in getting the baby out after so long!

Having babies is like getting your drivers license....do it before you realize what's up! After they get here, they're too addicting to send back to the hospital. Charlyn Cord (PJ's Mom)

I have lots of fun telling Marissa that Men can carry babies better than women. That line drives her CRAZY. HA HA HA. Not that I believe that, but its fun to say.

I just had my first baby. I used hypnobirthing and I was able to have her without an epidural, pitocin, episiotimy, etc... It was a great experience. I am a firm believer that birth is a natural and healthy process, and medical interventions should only take place unless the baby or mother is at risk. A healthy mother-to-be should have nothing to fear, and if she does, I recommend she take hypnobirthing, it did wonders for me!!!
By the way, you can read my entire birth story on my blog. If you so wish...
